Northland’s construction job losses second in nation

The Northland lost the second-most construction, mining and logging jobs of any metropolitan area in the U.S. from August 2008 to August 2009, according to an Associated General Contractors of America report released Wednesday….

…In the previous five years from 2004-08, the Duluth-Superior area’s employment averaged about 9,400 in August, but plummeted to about 6,300 in August 2009, said the association’s chief economist Ken Simonson….
